Subject: Tia Healthcare: Qualified for AMDP Investment?

Date: October 15, 2024

Upon being tasked with recommending a socially responsible business investment that aligns with the Anima Mundi Development Partners standards, I engaged in a research process that led me to discover some wonderful companies. But, the one that stood out to me the most was Tia Healthcare– a privately held clinic that specializes in providing curated women's health services. Tia’s motto is “for women, by women” and their overarching goal is to make quality healthcare more accessible to women worldwide. As a socially responsible, profitable, and sustainable business, Tia meets all of the AMDP criteria.

Roadmap:

  • Discuss AMDP standards and definitions.

  • Describe in-depth the Tia mission and operations..

  • Explore how Tia exemplifies the AMDP concepts.

  • Provide industry expert evaluations on Tia’s profitability, efficiency and ability to grow in the future.

  • Present a final recommendation on whether or not AMDP should invest.

AMDP Standards

Before I go into more details about Tia, I want to briefly reiterate our standards here at AMDP, focusing on the triple bottom line, corporate social responsibility, social enterprise and carbon footprint.

  1. Triple Bottom Line

Triple Bottom Line is a concept that states businesses should focus on measuring their social and environmental impacts in addition to focusing on their financial performance. This can be broken down into the following “Three Ps” that companies can reference to conceptualize their progress:

  • People: the company focuses its energy on all stakeholders and shareholders who generate value. This includes customers, suppliers, employees and the community in which the business operates.

  • Planet: the company is mindful about its environmental impact, making changes as necessary to acknowledge and lessen its environmental impact..

  • Profit: the company seeks to make positive change in the world while also prioritizing its financial success.

  1. Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility is the idea that businesses should operate in a manner that positively benefits society and the environment. By incorporating this idea, businesses make decisions about their strategy and profitability with the greater global community in mind. They do this by adopting certain policies, giving back, and mitigating their potentially negative impacts. This is important because it creates positive company culture and promotes innovation and improvement.

  1. Social Enterprise

A social enterprise is an organization that focuses on social objectives while using a typical commercial structure to operate. It aims to reach social, cultural, economic, and environmental goals, while also collecting profits.

  1. Carbon Footprint

A company’s carbon Footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) that they emit through their operations.

For Women, By Women

Tia operates as a concierge-style women's clinic offering primary care, gynecology, mental health, and wellness services. Members pay a small annual fee and can utilize their insurance provider as payment. This revolutionized the concept of a membership-only concierge clinic by incorporating insurance to increase accessibility. Tia focuses on providing holistic care that is tailored and personalized, by integrating patient care. Instead of having to find multiple different doctors for your womens health needs, you can find them all at Tia. This model emphasizes patient-provider relationships and centers care around the individual. Currently, Tia operates in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Arizona, with plans to continue expanding.
